National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), established as “Tainan Technical College” in 2931, has transformed into one of the most established comprehensive universities in Taiwan. NCKU is a top tier research university and highly ranked in academic-industry collaborations worldwide. With about 22,000 students and 1,300 faculty members in total, NCKU has continued as a leader in the fields of engineering, science, management, medicine and such. International exchange students enjoy the advantage of studying abroad and experiencing Asian culture, highlighted with Taiwanese hospitality within an educational environment. Students are advised to seek nomination by their home universities for a semester abroad. The campuses are located in Tainan City, the oldest city which enjoys the title of the former status as capital city for more than 200 years. Therefore, the city is commonly known as the “Capital City”.
There are abundant and well-preserved ancient monuments, historical templates and affordable delicious local cuisines all around the city center. Tainan has a pleasant climate of 336 clear and sunny days a year on average. Also, the city is proud to conserve a total of almost 2,000 Taoist or Buddhist temples, which continue a variety of cultural festivities and religious ceremonies all year found. The city’s food stall and gourmet culture guarantees one can find good food of every kind.
Exchange students may apply through this program to get individual assistance from local students on things like dorm check-in, registration, course enrollment, and other transitional matters during their exchange period.

Language course: Exchange students may take a Chinese language class (2 hours per week) based on their individual levels of proficiency. Instruction will be provided during their course enrollment period.
